Compensation
How we make money
Completely, in plain language, on a page linked from every conversion surface. If the answer embarrasses us, that is a reason to change the business model, not the disclosure.
This business is designed to be paid three ways: a share of supplier compensation when a customer signs a supply contract, direct fees for advisory work, and subscriptions for monitoring. No supplier can improve its ranking by paying more, and the analysis is built to say when switching is not the answer.
| Source | When it applies | Who pays | Conflict, and how it is managed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Supplier or broker compensation | A customer chooses to sign a supply contract through a competitive process | The supplier, from the contract | We earn more if you switch. Managed by: rank is never affected by compensation; the compensation is disclosed before you decide; and the share of reviews that end in "stay put" is published. |
| Advisory and audit fees | Rate schedule audits, bill audits, portfolio reviews, RFP management for complex accounts | The customer, directly | Aligned. This work attacks the regulated half of the bill, where no supplier earns anything. |
| Power Desk subscription | Ongoing monitoring, contract archive and renewal management | The customer, monthly | Aligned. We keep it only if it is useful. |
| Qualified referrals | Solar, storage, efficiency, demand response, where you ask for one | The receiving firm | Disclosed at the point of referral. We do not sell the same enquiry to several firms. |
What we do not do
- We do not sell leads. Your details are not sold, and the same enquiry is not distributed to a list of brokers.
- We do not take payment for ranking. A supplier cannot buy a better position, a highlight, or an invitation it is not otherwise eligible for.
- We do not run display advertising. It pays very little and it undermines trust at exactly the moment a business is deciding whether to share a bill.
- We do not charge for the bill analysis that shows you the supply, delivery and demand split.
The uncomfortable part, said out loud
We earn more when you sign a supply contract than when you do not. That is a real incentive and pretending otherwise would be worse than disclosing it.
Three things are designed in because of it. Supplier invitation and ranking are decided by rules that do not include compensation. The proportion of reviews that end in a stay-put recommendation is tracked and published. And the advisory line — rate schedule fit, demand management, billing accuracy — earns where there is no supply transaction available, which is why the site serves fully regulated states at all.
What we do not promise
We do not guarantee savings. Nobody honestly can: the market moves, your usage changes, and a promise about a future price is a guess with a confident font.
