What matters for a business account

SaskPower publishes separate business schedules for SaskPower-supplied transformation and customer-owned transformation, with additional categories for other uses. The electrical connection arrangement is therefore part of the price question rather than a detail to discard after reading the energy line.

A farm, oil-field site and general commercial business should not be assigned the same schedule simply because they share a postal area. Match the account category and connection terms to the official schedule before entering charges into a calculation.

For a warehouse or production facility, record energy, billed demand, fixed charges and the responsibility for transformation equipment. When considering expansion, obtain the utility’s classification and connection requirements before using an illustrative operating-cost estimate as a project budget.

Your Saskatchewan bill-review checklist

  1. Identify who owns the transformation equipment.
  2. Keep business, farm and oil-field schedules distinct.
  3. Check the latest approved schedule and riders for the billing dates.

Turn the statement into a useful calculation

Record the billing period and electricity consumption in kWh. Use the billed demand from the statement where a demand charge applies; do not assume average consumption identifies the peak. Enter the fixed and variable components in their published units, and identify which adjustments are already included.

The Canadian calculator lets you declare energy blocks, billed demand, any included demand allowance, fixed charges and a tax assumption. Its subtotal is a model of those entries. It does not select your tariff, decide whether a business qualifies, reproduce every rider or certify a billing error.

When comparing two periods, record changes in operating hours, production, occupancy, heating and equipment. Those observations help explain a movement in consumption without inventing a market price or assuming an error. Keep the actual account and source documents privately with your business records.

The publication and the account’s terms control applicability. A provider directory is not a province-wide offer or a guarantee that the same tariff applies to another meter.

Questions business owners ask

Can I use a residential Saskatchewan price for a business estimate?

Only if that residential schedule actually applies to the account. General business and other customer categories need their own published schedule and connection details.

Are farm and oil field customers on the same rates as other businesses?

No. SaskPower lists farm rates and oil field rates separately from its business rates, which are split by SaskPower-supplied and customer-owned transformation.

Who approves SaskPower rate increases?

SaskPower applies to the Crown Investments Corporation. The Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel reviews the application and reports publicly, and Cabinet makes the final determination.

Are these business tariffs or residential examples?

This guide is written for commercial bill review. Actual eligibility and charge inputs must come from the account’s business schedule. Residential examples and U.S. state averages are not substituted for it.
